According to me empathetic design practices are not just restricted to graphic and architectural design; it expands in a lot of directions. Design in general should have an empathetic , ‘for the people‘ feel to it otherwise there’s no point in producing goods that look large on the shelf but have no real value when it comes to using it. Talking about examples another field where empathetic design plays an important role is product design. Being a product design student, the basis of our designs revolve around making other people’s lives easier and creating products for them that they won’t even realize they are in need of. It’s not always that humans are the only target when it comes to empathy based design, environment plays a major factor. We can’t deny the fact that everything on these planets connected directly and indirectly and it’s our duty to take care of it by whatever means we can. Creating a sustainable, eco-friendly and green design would be one of the first things we would take care of. Prosthesis would be one of the greatest examples of empathetic design. Prosthesis is an artificial device that replaces a missing body part and substitutes its share of movement. Prosthetic limbs are a common example of empathetic design. It has proved to be really beneficial to people who have lost their limbs due to some unforeseen circumstances. Heavy research is being done to make the limb as realistic and as close to natural as possible. |
