Questions
Would you
Design a package to look larger on the shelf?
Yes, I might consider doing that depending on the kind of mentality that the target customers have. After a lot of research, if the statistics say that the customers have quite a laid back and an undemanding attitude I will go ahead with the idea.
Do an ad for a slow moving, boring film to make it look like a light hearted comedy?
No, I would think a million times for doing that because my goodwill is at stake. If I would want to stay in this field for long it will take me more than a good film to get back my lost charm.
Design a jacket for a book whose sexual content you would find sexually repellent?
Yes, when I’m designing a book jacket, I would first think of what the viewer wants rather than what I would want, so that the design will cater to a larger audience and not just me.
Design a package for a cereal aimed at children, which has low nutritional value and high sugar content?
No, anything that would involve causing harm to someone’s health in anyway, I wouldn’t want to be a part of it.
Design a line of t-shirts for a manufacturer who employs child labour?
No, I strongly feel against the idea of child labour. My morals will not allow me to do such a thing. But if the employer is trying to help those children in some or the other way then I might just think of going ahead with plan of making t-shirts.
Design a promotion for a diet product that you know doesn’t work?
No, i can personally connect to those people on the other side. Personally speaking I have gone through all of this it is not at all funny if something like that is done to people. It takes a lot of time and patience of the consumer and after those not getting results is so not good. Thus I would have had opted out of it.
Design a brochure piece that turned over more frequently than average in emergency conditions and caused the death of 150 people?
Like I mentioned earlier I will not encourage anything that somehow leads to harming other people in anyway.
Design an ad for a product whose continued use might cause the user’s death?
No, this will be against my morals to work for such an organization.
Which working methods appeal to you the most?
I think having a self-directed side project suits me. I guess it’s just my way of working, and working under someone else’s commands and deadlines is not something that I would really want to do. There is always someone I can go to in need of help. I need my own space to think freely and get feedbacks on what I have thought of and not someone else’s project I am a part of. And since it’s my own personal project I can put in a lot more effort.
Which issues close to your heart?
Issues that really are close to my heart will be the environment and health. Since childhood we have been taught environmental awareness but very few people actually took up the effort to practice what they learn in class. Some of the basic things that includes not throwing waste directly out on the road, how to manage your carbon footprint, and reduce it by planting more trees. We were so lucky we were made aware of the changes around us at such a small age, so by the time you grow up its not a compulsion anymore it has become a part of you, and you keep practicing it. Environmental awareness is something everyone should have and should know that the surrounding around us is quite sensitive to change. This also inspires me to go green with my designs, make it as eco-friendly as possible and cater to sustainable design that lasts longer.
I used to love playing with cars and dad used to keep bring me car models, hot wheels anything that would come on four wheels, and that’s how I developed this passion for cars. My dad and me have had these long alone times where we just discussed about weird concepts of car, flying cars and amphibian cars and what not. Since then it’s been my dream to fulfil my dad’s dream. But all I can do right now is ideate and sketch and keep him happy till the time i really make one.
My grandfather has an old ambassador which was the first car that he ever bought and he refuses to dump it even though it’s not in a working condition. Every time I go to meet him, I always see that car lying around in the parking covered in dust. I’m waiting for this day when I get the money and time to fully refurbish it and surprize my grandfather.
