There are two kinds of people some who do it for themselves and some, who do it for others. Self-actualization and altruism, though very different, rise from the same source. They are like the branches of a tree, where they share the same roots but one of the branch, out does the other to evolve into a totally different thing. On one hand self-actualization has more to do with one’s own self, doing the fullest of our potentials and on the other self-transcendence has everything to do with serving other people. But to achieve that level of transcendence one has to complete the first level of achieving self-actualization.
The Dabbawalas is a community of people who deliver home cooked food to office going people and back. They have set a routine to deliver all the deliverable's to the receiver on time, regularly every day. In 1890 this trend of delivering lunch was started by one guy, which today has multiplied to 4500-5000 dabbawalas delivering food in Mumbai every day, and inspite of this huge number there is not even a single mistake from their side. It’s astonishing how they have designed this whole system and such a vast network covering the whole of Mumbai. Why I chose this example was because the dabbawalas, everyday spend their sweat and blood for other, they put in their full potential to serve others which is quite evident by their flawless performance. Their whole system is so well designed that it’s difficult to find flaws in them, it is self-sufficient and reliable. It’s only through their alert mind and body that they are successfully carrying out such a huge task so effortlessly every day. Every day they work like a chain passing on the dabbas from one point to the other and further ahead till the dabba reaches its destination, One mistake and the whole of their link breaks, I guess this is what keeps them going every day, they are aware of the consequences that will follow that one mistake. Thus they have reached that level of actualization by giving in their full potential to reach that level of transcendence by serving others.
